Preventing Early Blow Bar Failure: 12 Misapplication Symptoms & Fixes

Preventing Early Blow Bar Failure: 12 Misapplication Symptoms & Fixes

A maintenance-first checklist to stabilize wear, protect the rotor, and stretch service intervals.

Common symptoms

  • Tile spalling / cracking on ceramic inserts → shock loads beyond the duty envelope.
  • Delamination at insert interface → insufficient support or severe impacts.
  • Early edge chipping → unremoved steel, oversized feed, or overspeeding.
  • Uneven rounding → off-center feed or asymmetrical S1/S2.

Corrective actions

  • Improve steel removal (magnet + hand-pick); reduce rotor speed; open S1/S2 slightly.
  • Switch to tougher matrices (Mn/Martensitic) where steel exposure cannot be eliminated.
  • Flip/rotate before the wear limit; re-torque wedges after warm-up; monitor vibration after restart.
